"Check Your Value Chain" for PPWR

The PPWR applies to all packaging placed on the EU market – regardless of the product it contains. The decisive factor is the role a company plays in the supply chain, e.g. manufacturer, importer or distributor. This is because due diligence obligations may also arise if a company 'merely' purchases and uses packaging.

The PPWR covers the entire life cycle of packaging and typically requires several companies along the value chain to comply with the PPWR.

The PPWR will come into force in August 2026. This creates concrete pressure on companies to implement documentation and information obligations in a structured manner at an early stage. The PPWR stipulates DoCs and technical documentation at packaging level for this purpose.

With "Check Your Value Chain", PPWR obligations are converted, software-based, into structured, role-based data collection and documentation frameworks. PPWR-relevant evidence, such as DoCs and technical documentation, can be recorded on a packaging-by-packaging basis and consistently formatted.

If DoCs are missing or incomplete, this creates a specific compliance risk, as the PPWR requires the packaging to comply with the packaging information.

"Check Your Value Chain" supports this process with role-based questionnaires to request PPWR-relevant data from business partners.

The PPWR explicitly links obligations to the role of a party (e.g. manufacturer, importer or distributor). If the role is not clearly defined, a company exposes itself to legal, operational and financial risks. Furthermore, companies may automatically be classified as manufacturers and thus assume the obligations associated with that role – even if the company only purchases packaging.

Clarifying roles under the PPWR is therefore not a mere formality, but the basis for determining whether and for what companies are liable. 

With "Check Your Value Chain", roles are explicitly defined using standardised questionnaires – companies receive a clear overview of responsibilities at the packaging level.
