Carbon Border Manager

Reliably implementing the CBAM

Simply implement CBAM with Check Your Value Chain

The EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which came into force in 2023, aims to put a fair price on CO2 emissions from the production of carbon-intensive goods imported into the EU. This is intended to prevent the EU's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from being undermined by the relocation of production to non-EU countries or increased imports of carbon-intensive products.

PwC's digital solution for CBAM: one module for all compliance requirements

Our enterprise-grade solution offers a structured approach to streamline reporting and minimise compliance costs. It integrates data from various sources, ensuring all required information is compiled into fully EU-compliant CBAM reports.

01

Importing Supplier Master Data

In the first step, supplier master data is created through data integration, where data is exported from the company’s ERP system, converted to the target format, and imported into the CBAM software. For SAP systems, PwC provides an automated ABAP export function. The data is then uploaded, validated, and saved. Alternatively, suppliers can be created and managed manually.

02

Importing Customs Data

To generate a CBAM report, customs data for the relevant reporting period is required. This data is obtained from customs representatives, authorities, or internal master data. The CBAM software provides an Excel template for data entry, which is then uploaded.

03

Matching Suppliers

In the customs data, suppliers appear as exporters and need to be cross-referenced with the supplier master data. The CBAM software provides a semi-automatic function that extracts suppliers from customs data and suggests matching entries from the supplier master data, facilitating the process for users.

04

Creating CBAM Report

Our software automatically compiles all relevant customs data of CBAM imports for the reporting period and assigns the respective actual values or fill 0 where actual values are missing. A new CBAM report can now be created.

05

Collecting Actual Emissions Data

The main challenge of CBAM is obtaining emission data from the supply chain. This data is collected using the original EU "CBAM Communication Template for Installations" Excel file. The CBAM software records production facilities in the supplier master data and extracts the emission data automatically.

06

Downloading CBAM Report

The CBAM report, containing current customs and emissions data in the EU-specified XML format, can be updated and downloaded at any time. It can then be uploaded to the EU CBAM portal for submission.
