Die rasante Verbreitung von Tablets und elektronischen Lesegeräten bringt Schwung in den Markt für elektronische Bücher: Im Jahr 2014 wird der Umsatz mit E-Books im Bereich Belletristik, inklusive Kinder- und Jugendliteratur, in Deutschland bei 396 Millionen Euro liegen. Bis zum Jahr 2017 werden sich die Umsätze mit elektronischen Büchern erneut mehr als verdoppeln und über 850 Millionen Euro erreichen. Das entspricht einem Anteil von 16 Prozent am Gesamtmarkt für Belletristik in Deutschland. Ein Blick in die Niederlande und nach Belgien zeigt eine ähnliche Entwicklung.
