Abstract

By 2050, our planet will be home to 9 billion increasingly richer people. The challenge of being able to feed them is tremendous. According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), by 2050 the world needs to increase food supply by 60%. This strong increase in food production will put pressure on our earth’s resources. Climate change and resource scarcity demand that we reduce the impact on the environment and ecosystems, otherwise our future food supply will become vulnerable and price fluctuations increasingly higher. We need to find new scalable ways to increase efficiency in the chain: deliver more from less.
